This Is Only a Test—–BEEEEP

If you grew up in the 70’s you will remember when your TV or radio would beep and a deep-voiced announcer would say, “This is only a test. This is only a test of the emergency broadcast system.” Every time it happened I was sure Russia was bombing us. (I was taught that in grade school!)

Remember that phrase when you get nervous about a “Big Event” such as a work presentation, a meeting, an interview, or a date with someone out of your league. Moments like that can feel so serious that you believe with one wrong move your world is going to blow up. But it won’t—it is only a test. You will recover and realize you were only freaking yourself out.

How about this year you don’t worry about the test, but do your best and view those stressful moments as an experience and an opportunity to learn. Then “See What Happens” You can’t control everything in life and some of the best moments occur when you do your best, then sit back and watch what happens. Enjoy the journey, more than the destination.

You really can’t fail if you view everything as an experience. You might be surprised by what actually DOES happen. Give it a try and let me know how it goes

(Thanks to Derek Sivers for reminding me about the Emergency Broadcast System Test)
